Turkish Golf Federation (TGF) predicts a brighter 2009

Wednesday, April 22, 2009

Turkey's overall popularity has risen considerably over the last few years. And golf is becoming an increasingly important driver in attracting tourists, and indeed property purchasers, to Turkey - and it was crowned Best Golf Destination of the Year in Europe by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) in 2008.

Only a short flight from the UK and Situated outside the Euro-zone, astute players are now realizing that world-class golf in the Mediterranean doesn't just mean Spain and Portugal. The country's Mediterranean climate means that Turkey is forging a reputation as a popular location for those looking to take golf holidays, and the Turkish government is keen to tap into the golfing market as it understood golf tourism is a way to sustain and develop Turkish tourism.

The Turkish Golf Federation has grand plans for 100 courses countrywide in the next 15 years, up from just 17 today with the construction of international class courses well underway. Big names in the world of golf design are already active in the country, driving up the quality of design and facilities. Golf in Turkey has been centered on Istanbul and Antalya's Belek, with its 14 courses, is definitely the place to lead the country. However, Bodrum now has 3 courses open, with 4 more planned for the area. This has encouraged development to meet the demand for quality accommodation from golfers, be it for rent or purchase. In the Tulza area, for instance, the first of two classically designed 18-hole golf courses opened earlier this summer at the Vita Park Golf Club, with the second course due to open in 2009. There are a number of residential developments surrounding the courses offering affordable property to purchase.

Laurence Kaye of Alternative Travel, a specialist Turkish golf travel operator has stated that Turkey appeals to British golfers thanks to its pleasant Mediterranean climate, with ideal playing conditions throughout the year. Ahmet Agaoglu, chairman of the Turkish Golf Federation (TGF) predicted a brighter 2009, despite the global economic crisis. "I believe 100,000 to 125,000 golf tourists will visit Turkey in 2009, which means 400,000 to 450,000 rounds."

Dominic Whiting, editor of the Buying in Turkey guide, concludes, "Turkey has really made its mark as a global tourism destination in recent years and it is keen to continue in this vein, attracting even more visitors and offering world class golf courses and facilities along with exceptional value real estate is a further step in that direction."

The Turkish government is keen to tap into the golfing market

Wednesday, January 14, 2009

Golf lovers will be pleased to hear that a report aiming to foresee the most popular places for golf tourism has named Turkey as the best destination for golf.

Golf is becoming an increasingly important driver in attracting tourists, and indeed property purchasers, to Turkey. The International Association of Golf Tour Operators has named Turkey as the best destination for golf holiday destination despite the fact it has only 17 completed courses in the country, reports Simpli Group Property.

Many golf courses are planned to be built around property resorts, allowing investors to take advantage of the country's increased demand for golf tourism. The Golf Federation of Turkey has announced ambitious plans for 100 golf courses to be built over the next 15 years; these new courses will join established ones which have already been developed by famous faces such as Nick Faldo and Colin Montgomerie.

The 18-hole course on a 170-acre site in Altinkum, Turkey has been given the go-ahead by planning officials. Altinkum has already attracted British property buyers due to low prices and the new golf course is expected to open up a higher-end market in the area. A new golf development is to be built in the resort of Bodrum, which is located along the Aegean coastline. NuBricks.com reported that This new golf project is sure to see increase in the property prices in the Bodrum area .

Dominic Whiting, editor of the Buying in Turkey guide, described the plans for new golf courses as "a major boost " and added that it will have a good effect on the property market in the area.

Turkey gets Golf destination of the year award

Wednesday, December 24, 2008

Tourism and property in Turkey gets a boost as Turkey has been awarded "Best Golf Destination of the Year – Europe 2008" by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO).

IAGTO is the global trade organization for the golf tourism industry, including over 320 specialist golf tour operators in 45 countries and comprising more than 1040 companies in 73 countries. The IAGTO Awards serve to reward a few exceptional contributions to the world of golf travel.

Robert Nixon, Operations Director, Nirvana International, specialists in property in Turkey has said that this is a tremendous accolade for Turkey. The Ministry of Tourism has recently announced the allocation of new land for five international golf clubs to be completed in two years time and in the Belek region a Golf Society was launched in 2006.The Awards has encouraged private and public sector organizations to work closely together in the development and promotion of golf destinations in Turkey, making them accessible to and enjoyable by the widest range of golfers.

The Turkish government is aiming to attract affluent golf lovers by creating new facilities for them. Plans for new resorts have been proposed to encourage foreign property buyers and golfers to visit Turkey. Property experts have stated that Turkey could possibly compete with more established golfing destinations such as Spain and Portugal on the grounds that its property values were much cheaper, despite offering facilities of the same high standard.

Moreover, Turkey is becoming a major player in the golfing world as not only are they building superior courses but also they are helped by the fantastic Mediterranean weather. An all year round facility with stunning natural sceneries makes this truly a place for those seriously interested in golf.

Turkey catching up fast in Golf tourism

Monday, December 1, 2008

Turkey has been named as a top spot for golf lovers and golf tourism is set to increase considerably over the next few years, experts have predicted.

KPMG Golf Advisory Practice recently revealed its Golf Travel Insight report for Europe, the Middle East and Africa which stated that Portugal, Spain and Turkey are s golf tourism's future hot spots. The study was conducted in more than 80 specialist golf tour operators in 21 countries in spring 2008. However, some surprising destinations are revealed in the survey such as Turkey which was ranked third on the list of future golf hot spots.

Andrea Sartori, head of KPMG's specialist Golf Advisory Practice for the EMA region, said that the growing competition doesn't leave much room for further growth in established golfing destinations.

Moreover, Turkey was named best golf destination in Europe by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators. Turkish government has developed its golf infrastructure and plans to create 100 new courses are underway. Property experts described the plans as "a major boost for tourism ", adding that it will have a good effect on the property market in the country.

In related news, Golf-lovers will be pleased to hear that government has invested £22.8 million in the new golf resort in Altinkum, Turkey, which is expected to open up a higher-end market in the area.

Turkish property boosted by golf tourism

Sunday, July 13, 2008

Golf in Turkey
Golf tourism is helping to drive the property market in Turkey and a prominent golf award could be great news for Turkey property investors.

International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) has awarded Turkey as "Best Golf Destination of the Year-Europe 2008". The award proclaims that Turkey is becoming one of the world's leading golf destinations.

Robert Nixon 'Operations Director' Nirvana International has stated that Turkey is becoming increasingly popular with golf fans, to such an extent that it could possibly overtake established countries such as Spain and Portugal. This is because the country is replete with high-quality golf courses and a large number of new golf courses and leisure facilities have been developed in the last few years. The easy accessibility with budget airlines, the warm weather, low living costs and ample areas of historical interest makes Turkey even more attractive for the holidaymakers and golf fans from other countries.

Data from the Turkish tourism ministry has revealed that the number of holidaymakers who are choosing to visit Turkey has gone up in the last year and the country attracted 7.3 million visitors. This is 15 per cent higher than the numbers recorded at the same point of 2007.

The expansion of new golfing facilities in Turkey could also have a knock-on effect of escalating the country's appeal to overseas property investors.

Turkish golf courses attract more visitors

Saturday, May 3, 2008

A KPMG Golf Advisory Services recent study has found that Turkey is set to become one of the world's hotspots for golf holidays. Travel Daily News reports say that Turkey is on the threshold of dislodging France and Spain as the golf centers of the world.

Head of KPMG's specialist Golf Advisory Services Team has said that the golf industry is currently benefiting from the continuous development of the travel and tourism industry. Turkey is posing a stiff challenge to the traditional golf markets of Europe and North America as it offers high quality golfing experiences at affordable prices.

Turkey's aviation sector was recently cited as one of the reasons for the country's emergence as a golfing destination during the last few years. The increase of new golfing facilities in Turkey is anticipated to have a positive impact on increasing the country's appeal to overseas investors.

The launch of new flights to and from the country could boost the tourism industry even further. Rhiannon Williamson of ShelterOffshore.com has stated that 25 million vacationers are expected to arrive in Turkey this year. It could tempt foreign property buyers to invest in the turkey’s property market.
